With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Barbara James (Statesville, North Carolina), who passed away on January 4, 2025 at the age of 80. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Fred Smyre and Pinkney Rhinehardt Smyre; her granddaughter Amanda Caldwell Carpenter; and her siblings, Charlie Smyre, Mary Smith and Dorothy Dalton.
She is survived by: her husband Andre Maurice Pettis; her daughters, Regina Avery (Michael) of Statesville, Adrian Caldwell and Kaychele McClelland (Chad) of Statesville; her mother-in-law Georgann Pettis of Statesville; her sister Edna Steele of Harmony; her sister-in-law Desiree Pettis of Troutman; her grandchildren, David Redmond (Stacy) of Cleveland, Erica Redmond of Albemarle, Candace Redmond of Statesville, Tedrian James of Durham, Chad McClelland, Jr. of Statesville, Chelsea McClelland of Statesville and Cameron McClelland of Statesville; her great grandchildren, Ja'Micah Wilson, Mykerah Wilson, Laveah Redmond, David Jr., Kimmarra Redmond, Alexis Morrison, JaQauvis Farmer, Devon Caldwell Carpenter, Jett McQueen, Cody McQueen and Cali Ann Harris; her stepgrandchildren, Nikarrius Luckey of Spencer, Imari Avery of Statesville and Brittany Franklin of Statesville; her stepgreat-grandchildren, Mar'Kaylan Smith, Anique Miller, Saniyah Faulk, Khaidynce Franklin, Essex Avery, Caimiri Thornton, Carina Thorton and A'leiyna Thornton; her niece Tina Murphy (Michael) of Statesville; her grandchild Anaria Rucker; her niece Elouise Parks of Statesville; and her close friend Larry Caldwell. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, family and friends.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 12th 2025 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Rutledge and Bigham Mortuary (603 S Center St, Statesville, NC 28677). A funeral service will be held on Sunday, January 12th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the same location.
