He was predeceased by: his parents, Samuel Paul Saunders, Sr. and Elsie Kimrey Saunders; his brothers, Jimmy Wade Saunders and Samuel Paul Saunders, Jr.; and his niece Karen Beth Saunders.

He is survived by: his nieces and nephews, Lou Ann Saunders Smith (Robbie) of Troy, Paula Kim Saunders of Asheboro, Jamey Andrew Saunders (Gail) of Troy, Sammy Saunders, III of Asheboro, Todd Craig Saunders and Brandon Alex Saunders of Shelby; and his sister-in-law Betty Ann Saunders of Troy.

Memorials may be made to the Greensboro Grimsley Alumni Association, P.O. Box 4241, Greensboro, NC 27404.
