He was predeceased by: his parents, Elijah Thomas and Esther Ellis Thomas; his daughters, Patricia Butts and Cathy Erdman; his siblings, Alice Lambert, Annette Taylor, Esther Haynes, Wade Thomas and Paul Thomas; his stepson Allen Moseley; and his stepgrandchildren, Shannon Farmer and Misty Joyner.
He is survived by: his wife Doris Corbitt Thomas; his children, Melinda Boykin (Charlie) of Wilson, Hope Thomas of Elm City and Tommy Thomas (Faye) of Rocky Mount; and his stepdaughter Charlene Joyner of Nashville. He is also survived by six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
