He was predeceased by: his wife Dorothy Smith Shelton. He is survived by: his children, Anne Shelton, Barbara S. Crowder (Darrell) of Middlesex, Jim Shelton (Pam) of Wilson and Gary Shelton of Stantonsburg; his grandchildren, Paul, Jeff Shelton, Beth C. Barnes (Frank) and David Crowder (Brittany); and his brother John Shelton (Margie) of Stantonsburg. He is also survived by nine great-grandchildren.
