He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, James Thomas Summerlin and Leana Buck Summerlin; his wife Marigold Summerlin; his children, Lyman Earl Summerlin, Jr. (Brenda), Anna Summerlin Hartgrove (Warner) and George Thomas Summerlin (Wendi); his grandchildren, Jamie Summerlin (Anna), Trey Summerlin (Shaina), Michelle Hartgrove, Kristin Hartgrove, Lanie Summerlin and Evan Summerlin; his great grandchildren, Cooper Summerlin, Sadie Summerlin and Maggie Mae Summerlin; and his sisters, Joyce Phinnix and Louise Rice.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, Stanley or to Gaston Hospice at P.O. Box 3984 Gastonia, NC 28054.
