He was predeceased by: his wife Carolyn Hovis Abernathy; and his son Michael Hovis Abernathy. He is survived by: his son Brian Ray Abernathy (Anne Caldwell Abernathy) of Stanley; his grandsons, Josh Abernathy (Rebecca) and Seth Abernathy (Chelsea); and his great grandchildren, Adler, Sawyer and Evie.
In lieu of flowers memorials in Mr. Abernathy's name be made to First Presbyterian Church. 512 Old Mt. Holly Rd., Stanley, NC 28164.
