He was predeceased by: his parents, Earl Carter and Alvirda Carter; and his siblings, Beverly Sutter, Robert and Dennis Carter.

He is survived by: his wife Mary Lou Carter; his children, Christine Hayes of St. Cloud and Paul Carter of Stanley, NC; his daughter-in-law Summer Carter; and his grandchildren, Dallas Logan of Stanley, NC, Dylan of Stanley, NC and Dalton of Stanley, NC. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
