She was predeceased by: her parents, Harold Benfield and Zoda Carpenter Benfield; her husband James Monroe Garland; her siblings, Paul, Doyle, Dewey, Lewis Benfield and Sandra Benfield Buchanan; and her son-in-law Tommy K. Daniels.
She is survived by: her children, Jack R. Garland (Carolyn) of Crossnore, Jimmy D. Garland (Alma) of Spruce Pine, Lee Garland (Glenda) of Spruce Pine and Leona Garland McFee (Kennie) of Newland; her sister Katherine Baker of Morganton; and also Jean Garland Daniels of Newland. She is also survived by twelve grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
