He was predeceased by: his parents, Clyde Newton and Lydia Bridges Newton; his brother Kenneth Newton; his daughter Sandy Smith; and his grandsons, Travis DeMetro and Nicholas Roberson.
He is survived by: his wife Christine Bridges Newton; his children, Roger Newton (Melanie) of Concord, NC, Mark Newton (Leslie) of Bakersville, Dawn Roberson (David), Amy Ward (Matt) of Bakersville and David Miller (Laurie) of Kittrell, NC; his siblings, Ray Newton (Wanda) of Supply, NC, Coleen Brackett of Lawndale, NC and Margaret Dennis (Keith) of Devine, TX; and his sister-in-law Greta Newton of Drexel, NC. He is also survived by nine grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; several special nieces, nephews, and friends.
