He was predeceased by: his parents, William George Atkins and Rosa Lee Merritt Atkins; and his siblings, Nettie Ann Atkins Holsonback, Betty Delois Atkins Cagle, Charles Vance Atkins and John Samuel Atkins.
He is survived by: his wife Billie Jo Atkins; his children, William Edward Atkins of Hillsboro, Vicki Sue Atkins Theis (Gary) of Simpsonville, Gary Wayne Atkins (Sid Stroup) of Cherryville and George Michael Atkins of Durham; his grandchildren, Erika Sue Atkins Gregory (David), Charles Greenlee Tyler Atkins (Mandi), Shelley Atkins Bagwell (Tate), Christopher Atkins, Megan Quigley, Caylen Quigley McAlister (Sean), Justin Theis (Noelle) and Brad Theis (Tyler); his great grandchildren, Wesley, Ryan Gregory, Luca Atkins, Makinna Atkins, Brighten Bagwell, Aubrey Atkins, Cynthia Hope Atkins and Aubree Theis; and his sister-in-law Carlene Strickland (Bennie). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
