He was predeceased by: his father James R. Powell; and his sister Lessie J. Daniels of Wheaton, MD. He is survived by: his children, Wanda Jeffery-Bryant (Ahmed) of Chaptico, MD, Kenneth Powell, Kathy Powell of Washington, DC, Kelvin Jeffery of Greenville, NC, Kevin Saunders of Washington, DC, Melvin Jeffery, Sr. of Rocky Mount, NC and Stevie R. L. Jeffery, Sr..
