He was predeceased by: his parents, John Francis and Myrtle Charity Williams Ashley; and his siblings, Ertia Lane, Oneda Ashley, Edith Overton, Robert, James and Johnnie Lee Ashley.
He is survived by: his wife Carolyn Powell Ashley; his children, Bonita Bertero (Bruce) of Windsor, VA and Shawn Ashley (Lynn) of Spring Hope; his sister Thelma Lane of Toano, VA; and his grandchildren, Lydia Barnes (Patrick), Erin Guth (Mitchell), Warren Ashley (Haley) and Ryan Ashley (Jessica). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his memory may be made to a charity of one's choice.
