He was predeceased by: his parents, Ernst Thommen and Sophie Hochstrasser-Thommen; and his siblings, Ernst and Ruth. He is survived by: his wife Paula Marie Thommen (Skibo); his children, Nicole Thommen Perri (Christopher Perri) and Dr. Douglas Michael Thommen (Rachel Thommen); and his grandchildren, Gabriel Perri, Elizabeth Perri, Benjamin Perri, Peter Thommen, Sophie Thommen and Emma Thommen.
