He was predeceased by: his mother Eloise Lewis Spencer; and his son Michael Travis Spencer. He is survived by: his father Harold T. Spencer, Sr.; his wife Carolyn Spencer; his children, Ervin Spencer (Jennifer), Laralyn Spencer of Portland, OR and Steven Spencer of Southport; his sisters, Patricia A. Mims (Roger) of Bonneau, SC, Sandra E. Allen and Brenda Bowling (Ken) of Oak Island, NC; and his grandchildren, Xander Spencer, Evelyn Spencer and Logan Spencer.
