It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Ruth Whitaker Smith (Sophia, North Carolina), who passed away on May 3, 2018, at the age of 86, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her siblings, Ruby Kivett, Doris Craven, Gilbert Whitaker, Harry Whitaker, Billy Whitaker, James Whitaker and Paul Whitaker.

She is survived by: her daughter Tawana Voncannon of Sophia; her husband James Ray of Sophia; her grandchildren, Ashlyn Rich of New York and Forrest Rich of Sophia; her brother Vernon Whitaker of Climax; and also Smith of Sophia. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
