He was predeceased by: his parents, Troy Tate and Cynthia Beach Tate; his daughter Marie Tate; his father-in-law Howard Gregson; and his sister Judy Tate.

He is survived by: his wife Mary Gregson Tate; his children, Ronnie (Tate, Jr.) of Sophia, Chris Tate (Cassie Andrews) of Sophia, Buddy Tate of Sophia and Cindy Tate (Cameron Goddard) of Sophia; his siblings, Robin Boone (Brian) of Thomasville, Debbie Wall (Richard) of Glenola, Virgil Tate of Thomasville, Wayne Tate (April) of Sophia, Arthur Tate of Trinity and Ray Tate of Trinity; and his mother-in-law Marilyn Gregson of Randleman.
