He was predeceased by: his parents, James Victor and Jessie Hulin Welch; his son-in-law Mike Collins; and his siblings, Nancy Allen and Kenneth Welch.

He is survived by: his wife Joan McDaniel Welch; his daughter Joy W. Collins of Summerfield; his grandchildren, Brandon Arnold (Rachel) of Trinity and Jennifer Collins of Reidsville; and his siblings, Carolyn Garris (Ronnie) of Archdale, Roger Welch of High Point, Darrell Welch (Cindy) of High Point and Wayne Welch (Alice) of Greensboro. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Due to the current COVID pandemic, a private funeral service will be held for the family.
