She was predeceased by: her parents, James Avan and Nettie Redd Mitchell; her husband Raymond Randolph Gray; and her daughter Deborah "Debbie" Anne Gray. She is survived by: her children, Peggy Gray Keel (Henry) of Snow Hill, Mary Gray Walton (Randy) of Cary, Nellie Gray Chadwick of Snow Hill and Randy Gray (Darla) of Newport; and her siblings, Eleanor Wrenn of LaGrange, Patricia Simmons of New River, SC and Jim Mitchell (Sadie) of LaGrange. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Liberty Baptist Church, 705 SE Second Street, Snow Hill, NC 28580.
