She was predeceased by: her parents, Jack Pilkington and Martha Evans Pilkington; her former husband Larry "Fet" Sullivan; her husband Samuel Rutter of Newton Grove; her son Lt. Colonel William R. "Randy" Sullivan; and her granddaughter Amy Kathryn Sullivan Stephenson.

She is survived by: her sons, Larry Sullivan (Brenda) of Pine Level and Stephen Sullivan (Ruth) of Pine Level; her grandchildren, Heather Schultz (Bob) of Garner, Lee-Ann Sullivan of Charlotte, Hannah Morgan (Brennon) of Middlesex and Kyle Sullivan of Wilmington; her great grandchildren, Sara Stephenson Ziman (Zach) of Roxboro, Lauren Stephenson of Goldsboro and David Morgan of Middlesex; and her stepson Billy G. Sullivan (Carolyn) of Dunn.
