It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Rufus Earl Benson in Smithfield, North Carolina, who passed away on May 26, 2023, at the age of 77, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, Cleveland Thomas Benson and Virginia Pope Benson; his wife Betty Benson; his son Craig Baker; and his brothers, William Dallas Benson and Thomas Ray Benson.
He is survived by: his son Greg Baker; and his siblings, J. C. Benson of Whiteville and Florence Pittman of Smithfield. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews as well as his grandchildren.
