He was predeceased by: his parents, John Reid and Lula Pressley Oates; and his brothers, Kenneth and Harold Oates. He is survived by: his wife Betty Sills Oates; his daughters, Cindy Oates Keathley Anthony of Cullowhee, NC and Terry Oates Norris of Belmont; and his grandchildren, Franklin Keathley (Paula), Kristen Keathley, Calley Anthony, Kaitlyn Anthony, Jett Norris (Anna), Jami Johnson (Jason), Jadi Norris (Tara), Jeff Norris and Jana Cochran (Neal). He is also survived by loving great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
