She was predeceased by: her husband Bertis Joyner Deans; her grandsons, Christopher Wilson and Jason Worrell; her parents, Melvery Holton and Virginia Holton; and her brothers, William Clyde Holton and Herbert D. Holton.

She is survived by: her children, Cheryl P. Pittman (Greg) of Kenly, Denise Paul of Missouri and John Paul (Ann) of Lucama; and her sisters, Charlotte Winstead of Virginia and Brenda Woodard of Virginia. She is also survived by five grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren.
