He was predeceased by: his parents, John Powers and Blanche Gray Powers; his great grandchild Rawson Miles Green; his sister Linda Langley; his brothers-in-law, Larry McAlister and Tommy Langley; his stepmother Lucy Brady Powers; and his stepbrothers, Vernon, Raeford, Jesse and Butch Brady.
He is survived by: his wife Diane York Powers; his daughter Dawn Smith (Ken) of Bear Creek; his stepchildren, Craig Cagle (Sheila) of Kernersville and Elizabeth Messick (Michael) of Winston Salem; his grandchildren, Brooke Smith (Richard) of Bear Creek and Kenley Barker (Garrett) of Bear Creek; his stepgrandchildren, Tiffany Ellis of Walkertown, Josh Cagle (Jesseca) of Walnut Cove, Jessica of Winston Salem, Jacob Messick of Winston Salem, Keith Chernek of Dallas, TX and Sarah Chernek of Greensboro; his great grandchildren, Raylin, Ryker, Reed, Rori and Kennedy; his stepgreat-grandchildren, Emma, Bryson, Blaine, Leelynd and Cole; his sister Pat McAlister of Coleridge; the mother of his child Bobbie Powers of Bear Creek; and his stepsiblings, Linda Wright, Dianne Pierce, Grace Ritter, Kaye Durham, Odell Brady, Ronnie Brady, Jerry Brady and Kenny Brady.
Visitation was held on Thursday, December 5th 2024 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Loflin Funeral Home (147 Coleridge Rd, Ramseur, NC 27316). A funeral service was held on Friday, December 6th 2024 at 2:00 PM at the Maple Springs Community Church (6231 NC-22 #42, Ramseur, NC 27316).
