He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Swofford and Mary Ethel Greene Swofford. He is survived by: his wife Ruth Crawford Swofford; his children, Dale Swofford of Kings Mountain, Phyllis Glover (Jimmy) of Shelby, Pam Hamrick (Virgil) of Shelby and Donald Swofford (Angie) of Bolivia, NC; his brother Howard Swofford of Hickory; his grandchildren, Christopher Swofford, Benjamin Swofford, Ashley Wilson (Andy), Amanda Randall (Alex), William Skinner (Amanda), Dena Haverland (Bob), Hollie Swofford, Josh Wilson (Brittany) and Breanna Moore; his great grandchildren, Tanner, Charley, Everleigh, Blakeleigh, Jeremiah, Brooke, Aaliya, Katelyn, Brandon, Lauren and Kayla; his daughter-in-law Karen Swofford; and his friend Anita Barrett. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
