He was predeceased by: his parents, Thomas Evans MacArthur and Violet Aster Hill MacArthur; and his brother Thomas MacArthur, Jr.. He is survived by: his wife Carol Ann Hovis MacArthur; his children, Dr. Robert Douglas MacArthur, Jr. (Frieda Menzer) of Winston Salem and Carmen Elise MacArthur (Douglas Lane Allred) of Jamestown, NC.; his grandchildren, Sarah Paxton MacArthur, Samuel Evans MacArthur, Patrick Lane Allred and Aidan Douglas Allred; and his in-laws, Sally, Bill Brackett, Duke, Chloe Hovis, Lynn Hovis, Earl Mace, Heath, Barbara Hovis and Donna Hovis. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
