He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert William Gates and Bonnie Alexander Gates. He is survived by: his wife Angie Hare Gates; his sons, Robert "Jed" Gates and Caley Gates; his nieces, Bonnie and Tabitha; and his close friends, Phil Humphries, Chip Caldwell and Mike Mellon. He is also survived by other sister, three nephews, and numerous family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 320 Old Boiling Springs Road, Shelby, NC 28152 to help Alan's children further their individual education.
