He was predeceased by: his parents, Benjamin Ira and Girtle Lorene Wood Mayhew; his brothers, Don Mayhew and Jack Mayhew; his grandchildren, Stephanie Mayhew and Dre Harper; and his sister Carolyn McSwain.
He is survived by: his wife Mary Mayhew; his children, Steve Mayhew (Tammy), Randy Mayhew, Kevin Philbeck (Bobbie), Toby Philbeck (Jennifer), Deborah Beaver, Kim Powell and Karen Morton; and his sisters, Linda Erby and Cathy Van Buren (David). He is also survived by nine grandchildren; ten great grandchildren his dog baby as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
