He was predeceased by: his parents, Gerald Thomas Sr. and Brenda Gardner; and his sister Sherry Willis. He is survived by: his children, Brandy Guin (Chris) of Gastonia and Gerald "Bubba" Gardner III of Lattimore; his sisters, Terra Gardner and Donna Garitta (Sal) of Lake Lure; his grandchildren, Kinsley and Beaux Guin; his nieces and nephews, Michelle, Shannon, Ashlee, Aaron and Clayton; and his great-niece Rylee (Donna Ledford).
