She was predeceased by: her parents, Gordon Meredith Thornton Sr. and Jewell Monteith Thornton; her siblings, Duane Thornton and Dorothy "Dottie" Bauguess; her in-laws, Richard Smith and Hazel Smith; her son-in-law David Wilson; and her brother-in-law Danny Baldwin.
She is survived by: her husband Iverson R. Smith; her daughters, Sandy Champion (Phil) and Sharon Wilson (Stephen Waldrep); her grandchildren, Katie Wilson, Gracie Sheffield (Wesley), Will Champion (Madi Ives) and Philip Champion (Melissa Martin); her siblings, Gordon Thornton Jr. (Karolyn), Jim Thornton, Laura Davis (Lee), Mike Thornton and Janice Baldwin; and also Pierre. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was held on Tuesday, November 5th 2024 at 1:00 PM at the Cecil M Burton Funeral Home (106 Cherryville Rd, Shelby, NC 28150). A graveside service was held on Tuesday, November 5th 2024 at 2:45 PM at the Catawba Memorial Park (3010 US-70, Newton, NC 28658).
