He was predeceased by: his parents, David Thomas Causby and Alice Lorene Hensen Causby; his wife Nancy Faye Philbeck Causby; and his siblings, Walt Causby, Earl Causby, Eddie Causby, JC Causby, Betty White and Linda Fowler.

He is survived by: his children, James Dean Causby, Jr. (April) of Shelby, Lori Carroll (Wayne) of Blacksburg, SC and Doris Causby of Shelby; his siblings, Tommy Causby of Shelby, Martha Jones of Fallston and Mildred Kanipe of Shelby; and his grandchildren, Hayley Hartsoe (Michael), Nikki Morris (Jamie) and Madison Causby.
