He was predeceased by: his parents, Joe Hoyt Hayes and Mary Sue Ledford Hayes; the mother of his children Erika Q. Hayes; his wife Yvonne Ford Hayes; his siblings, Joe Landrum Hayes and Wanda Haughton; and his stepson Jay Huntley.
He is survived by: his children, Bobby Hayes of Palm City, FL, Mark Hayes (Sarah) of Canonsburg, PA and Karen Martin of Mooresville; his stepson Greg Huntley; his sister Dianne Thackerson of Shelby; and his grandchildren, Emily Gunther, Megan Groves, Madison "Bee" Hayes, Zack Hayes, Matt Huntley, Whitley Rumfelt (Jordan) and Trey Huntley (Kimberly Huntley).
