He was predeceased by: his parents, John William Gentry and Sarah Ella Brooks Gentry; his wife Vera Bernice Troutman Gentry; his son John Mark Gentry of Shelby; and his siblings, Lois Mackey, Rachel Scott and Charles Gentry of Statesville.
He is survived by: his daughters, Mary Troutman Gentry Cook and Margaret Anne Gentry Neff; his sister Marie Hinson; his grandchildren, Annie Kee, Emily Huffstetler, Kristina Cook of Shelby, Victoria Neff of Charlotte and Jonathan Neff; and his great grandchildren, Serenity, Simon Kee, Lydia Canipe, Kinley, Brynne, Owen and Isaac Huffstetler of Shelby. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
