He was predeceased by: his parents, Francis Rudolph Townsend and Edna Adams Townsend; his wife Juanita Marshall Townsend; his daughter Denise Townsend; and his son-in-law Tim Smith.
He is survived by: his children, Louis Townsend (Wendy) of Carolina Shores, NC and Patricia "Patty" Smith of Newark, DE. He is also survived by six grandchildren; seven great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.
