It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Madeline Chestnut Atkinson (Shallotte, North Carolina), born in Dillon, South Carolina, who passed away on March 27, 2020, at the age of 81, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her parents, James Chestnut and Rowena Owens Chestnut; and her husband Rufus Legrand Atkinson. She is survived by: her children, Ervin Atkinson (Eneria) of Supply, Rufus Atkinson, Jr. of Supply, Jo-Ann Watson of Bolivia and Joyce Ann Thorton (Mike) of Glouster, VA; her siblings, George Chestnut (Jeanette) of Latta, SC and Lena Mae George of Bennettsville, SC; and her sister-in-law Eunice Mullis of Warner Robins, GA. She is also survived by four grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; five great, great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
