He was predeceased by: his parents, J. W. Smith and Nolie Smith; and his son James Barry Smith. He is survived by: his wife Shirley; his sons, Sammy (Pam Smith) of Ash, NC and Greg Smith (Tanya) of Ash, NC; his grandchildren, Ryan Smith (Lindsay), Christian Ward (Meredith), Whitney Smith (Matthew) and Chloe Smith; his pet Blanton; and his brothers, Johnnie (Violet) and Larry (Brenda). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
