He was predeceased by: his wife Carrie Moffitt Kearns; his former wife Kathryn Surratt Kearns; his children, Leticia Lynn Kearns, Andree Curtis Kearns and Nelvin Dirk Kearns; his parents, William Blake and Oleta Shaw Kearns; and his brother-in-law Norman Kivett.
He is survived by: his stepdaughter Kim Smith of Asheboro; his son Brad Kearns of Seagrove; his sisters, Joyce Kivett of Asheboro, Pat McBride (Lester) of Florida, Carol Watson (Tommy) of Badin Lake and Brenda Monroe (Charles) of Trinity; and his grandchildren, Jacob and Mackenzie Smith. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
