He is survived by: his parents, Robert and Lila Mathis, Jr.; his wife Brenda Dunford Mathis; his son David R. Dunford (Megan) of Camden, NC; his grandchildren, Madison Keffer and Zoe Dunford; his siblings, Yvonne Ricks (Rusty) of Cary, NC, Wanda Mathis of Elizabeth City, NC and Jerry Mathis (Nancy) of Canton, GA; his niece Rebecca Mattingly (Josh); his great-nieces and great-nephews, Ben and Lindsey Cole; and also, Raleigh and Liberty.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in memory of Robert Mathis to the Duke Cancer Institute Center for Prostate and Urologic Cancers.
