He was predeceased by: his wife Viola McNeill Hayes; his parents, Joseph Burgess Hayes and Ossie Owens Hayes; his daughter-in-law Donna Hayes; and his brother Boyd Hayes.
He is survived by: his children, Sylvia Davis (Rodney) of Asheboro, Tim Hayes of Asheboro, Joe Hayes (Edna) of Asheboro and Steve Hayes (Suzanne) of Seagrove; his grandchildren, Shaun Hayes (Maria), Zach Hayes (Lindsey), Eric Hayes (Stephanie), Eli Hayes (Hayden), Micaela Hayes (Jordan Cox) and Mallory Russell (Ashton); and his great grandchildren, Arthur Hayes, Alexander Hayes, Liam Hayes and Judson Hayes.
