He is survived by: his wife Virginia 'Sis Ponton; his children, Bettie Ruffin (Paul) of Roanoke Rapids and James Tyron Ponton of Emporia, Virginia; his grandchildren, Shertoria Ruffin of Roanoke Rapids and James Tyrell Ponton of Virginia; his great grandchild Tyler James Ponton of Boston, Massachusetts; and his sisters, Beatrice Brown of Seaboard, Elizabeth Newsome of Garysburg and Ruth Hicks of Roanoke Rapids. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.
