He was predeceased by: his parents, Wilkie Hale and Howard Leroy Hale, Sr.; his son Howard Jeffery "Jeff" Hale; his wife Lydia Stallings Hale; his sister Sylvia Cobb; and his half-brother Sidney Beach.
He is survived by: his daughter Lorie Hale Davenport of New Bern; his grandson Parker Davenport of New Bern; his brother Andy Hale (Bonnie) of Delaware; his siblings-in-law, Frances Beach of Wilson and Steve Cobb of Sharpsburg; and his close friend Donna Coleman of Scotland Neck. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
