He was predeceased by: his wife Joyce Letchworth Saunders; his parents, Bennie A. Saunders and Mary Ethel Owens Saunders; and his sister Janice S. Dail. He is survived by: his daughter Elaine Saunders; his sister Dorothy Proctor of Morehead City; and his pets, Henry, Lucky, Harry and Hazel. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Sanoca Fire Department, PO Box F, Saratoga, NC 27873.
