He was predeceased by: his parents, Jessie James Smith and Flossie Mae Smith; his sons, Daniel Smith and Paul David Smith; and his siblings, Gene Smith, Trudy Ann English, Flora Dell Smith, Sam Smith, James Ralph Smith, Everette Smith and Janie Bonnett.
He is survived by: his wife Kate Smith; his children, Julie Warner of Richmond, VA, Dee Scott of Laurinburg, NC and Monroe Smith Jr. of Sanford, NC.; and his daughter-in-law Julie Smith of Sanford, NC.
