He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Grier and Luvadah Douglas Grier; his wife Emma Barksdale Grier; his brother Donald Grier; and his siblings-in-law, JD Covington and Anne Hatchett Grier.
He is survived by: his children, Sonja Grier Smith, Michelle Grier and Vernon Grier, Sr.; his stepson Ronald Barksdale; his grandchildren, Allen Graham (Jasmine), Worth Smith, III, Kia Funderburk, Saundra Smith, Vernon Grier, Jr., Kianna Funderburk, Deonte Grier and London Grier; his great grandchild April Graham; and his sister Virginia Grier Covington. He is also survived by loving nieces, nephews, step-grandchildren, other relatives, and friends.
