He was predeceased by: his wife Mildred Ellis Corpening; and his siblings, Thurman Corpening, Jr., George Corpening, Dock Corpening, Sr., Robert Corpening, Lillie Cockerl, Jennifer Reid and Annie Corpening.
He is survived by: his sons, James L. Corpening, Jr. (Felice) of Clayton, NC and Derrick S. Corpening of Spencer, NC; his sister Betty Hill (Roosevelt) of Simpsonville, SC; and his grandchildren, Maleah Corpening, Taylor Corpening, Donavan Corpening and Cameron Corpening. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
