He was predeceased by: his parents, James Odell Gilbert Sr. and Ruth Elaine Gilbert (Laxton); and his brother Jackie Ray Laxton. He is survived by: his wife Jaana (Paukkonen); his daughters, Alexis Gilbert and Brianna Gilbert; and his sisters, Betty Loewen (Rollie), Sandra Ennis (William), Kaye Sams (David) and Roxanna Rees (late Robert).
