He was predeceased by: his father Halvdan M Carlsen; and his sister Christine Thomas. He is survived by: his wife Barbara Schlitter Carlsen; his children, Eleanor Fricano (Don), Barbara Carlsen, Richard Carlsen and Joan Gillon (David); his grandchildren, Jason Fricano, Daniel Fricano (Rachel) and Courtney Khoury (George); his great grandchildren, Aurora, Mason, Ethan, Alexis and Amelia; his sister Eleanor Clark of Pennsylvania; and his pet Milo. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will hold a private celebration of his life and ask that any memorials be made to the Rowan County Rescue Squad.
