He was predeceased by: his wife Gail Athey. He is survived by: his son Ernie Athey Jr. (Denise); his granddaughter Shalee Athey (Kayla); his stepdaughter Tabitha Holshouser; and his son Michael Blackwelder.
Visitation was held on Saturday, March 8th 2025 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Powles Staton Funeral Home (913 W Main St, Rockwell, NC 28138).
