He was predeceased by: his parents, Claude Hartsell and Elizabeth Hartsell; his wife Carolyn Doby Hartsell; and his brother Clyde Hartsell. He is survived by: his sons, Jim Hartsell (Beverly) and Tim Hartsell (Wendy); his granddaughters, Jennifer Alderman (Jeremy), Laura Allen (Wes) and Kate Hartsell; his stepgrandsons, Justin Hall (Jennifer) and Kevin Hall (Jennifer); his great grandchildren, Griffin Alderman, Sydney Alderman, Parker Allen, Phoebe Allen and Harrison Hall; and his sister Willie Hartsell Gibson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Williamson's Chapel United Methodist Church, Pastor's Discretionary Fund.
