He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry Locke Shuping and Velna Young Shuping; his wife Georgia Holshouser Shuping; and his brothers, Dr. Ralph Shuping (Frances) of Salisbury, Dwight Shuping (Martha) of Salisbury and Jimmy Shuping.

He is survived by: his children, Renee Phillips (Randall) of Taylors, Shelia Lingle (Todd) of Salisbury, Dr. George B. Shuping (Wendy) of Mooresville and Jennifer Ruppe (Josh) of Rutherfordton; his sister Sandra Owen of Salisbury; his grandchildren, Nick Cassidy, Madeline Polskin (Matthew) of Simpsonville, Anna, Allison Lingle of Salisbury, Lillian, Scarlett Shuping of Mooresville, Caroline and Lauren Ruppe of Rutherfordton; and his great grandchildren, Braylyn Lingle of Salisbury and Charles Polskin of Simpsonville.
