He was predeceased by: his son Jesse Matthew Evans II; and his nephew William Dale Evans. He is survived by: his children, Crystal Wilson (Robert) of Spindale, Phillip Evans (Chanci) of Forest City and Joshua Evans (Cassie) of Cowpens; his siblings, Linda Stevens (Jerry), William Evans, Eugene Evans (Dortha), Paul Darnell Evans (Marie), Patricia Darlene Wooten, Elizabeth Pauline Taylor (Terry), Wanda Garvin, Sherry Owens (Keith) and Michael Evans; and his grandchildren, Matthew Hopkins, Tiffany Swink, Misty Swink, Jeffrey Swink, Jr., Tyler Craig and Lillian Wilson.
